Traditionally, kama were weapons used by common folk to fight samurai. The shape and design resembles the traditional farming tool called a kama that was used to cut crops like rice. Then farmers rose up against their samurai overlords with their agricultural tools. Anything can be a weapon if you put your mind to it.
This particular kama set has an unsharpened 6.5" blade. You can sharpen it yourself, though a lot of people like to use unsharpened kama for practice or martial arts demonstrations, since they're not actually fighting samurai and don't want to accidentally stab anyone. The 18 inch handles are made out of polished hardwood and the unsharpened blades are made out of a black steel.
